As with all light based treatments, IPL works by emitting a wavelength into the skin, which in the case of hair removal targets pigment. It works in the same way black clothing absorbs heat on a hot day, versus white clothing which reflects it.

IPL treatments work very well to reduce and remove brown and red spots on the skin and create an overall better complexion. However, as this treatment has “minimal or no downtime”, it is necessary to do 3-5 treatments to achieve the very best results.

IPL is similar to a laser treatment. However, a laser focuses just one wavelength of light at your skin, whileIPL releases light of many different wavelengths, like a photo flash. … You can useIPL anywhere on your body, but it may not work as well on uneven areas.

You will see some improvement about a week out of each treatment. The maximum results will be visible 3-5 months out if you do a series of treatments about 1 month apart each. It is not unusual to have your results vary with each treatment.

You can apply makeup immediately after IPL treatment, if necessary.  It is important to protect your skin from the sun using a sunscreen daily. You should use a gentle skin cleanser and moisturizer for about a week, and then you can resume your normal skin care routine. Do not take a hot bath, hot shower or bask in the hot tub for at least 48 hours.
